Get away from it all at la Ferme du Four!

Maison_2021_3.jpg

Keen to forget the stress of the past few months?

Or escape noise and pollution?

Well, you've just found the right place!

Use the farm as a base and explore further afield the landscape of unforgettable beauty, dotted with thousand-year old châteaux, remote picturesque villages and caves testifying the presence of man in the region ever since the pre-historic times.

What are your dreams? Ours is to do - very little! Escape from the big city bustle and hustle, recharge your batteries by dozing off in a hammock under the walnut tree or in the cool shade cast by the old courtyard walls; finish that book you downloaded year ago; if you need to stay connected then log on to faraway financial markets and continue building your fortune between two bites of local delicacies or, for the connoisseurs, two sips of some wonderful local wines.

Wander the woodlands or run and cycle along the quiet country roads. Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the hamlet of Montfort (1.2 miles away; part of the rural district of Vitrac) and the stunning view over the Dordogne from the top of a rocky promontory, explore the fortified medieval village of Dome (3 miles), walk in the footsteps of the world's first people in Lascaux (20 miles) and Les Eyzies (20 miles), or discover the castles of Périgord, perched on their rocky outcroppings as last witnesses of the Hundred Years' War.

There is plenty to do for the hyperactive ones too: walk a mile down towards the castle of Montfort or take a swim in the Dordogne at Vitrac Port; ride in a canoe underneath the cliffs towards the castles of Castelnaud, Beynac or the charming village of La Roque Gageac; sail a gabarre and feel like the merchants who used the river to transport their goods to Bordeaux.

Or why not jump into a hot air balloon and discover the Périgord Noir from above?

"France may one day exist no more, but the Dordogne will live on, just as dreams live on and nourish the souls of men."

Henry Miller
